Maitreyee Kelkar is a certified lighting designer with a masters degree in Architectural Sciences from the prestigious Lighting Research Center at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, New York.

Soon after graduating in architecture from the University of Mumbai in 2010, she worked in Indian entertainment architecture designing Bollywood movie sets & India’s first theme park, Imagica.

There, she realized the untapped potential of lighting design in India, and why lighting needs to be considered as important as space itself to create world-class design.

During her masters program, she worked as a research assistant at Lighting Research Center, followed by an internship at OVI, New York City. Maitreyee then worked on leading retail brands such as Tiffany & Co., Michael Kors, and Barneys while working as a lighting designer at Cooley Monato Studio, also in New York City.

Maitreyee returned to India in 2015 to explore the Indian market and establish herself as a lighting design professional in Mumbai. In 2018, she founded Studio SOL, a boutique lighting design firm that aims to integrate lighting and architecture into a seamless blend of aesthetics and practicality.
